InstanTrans Privacy Statement

Last updated: 2026.10.18 · 简体中文

InstanTrans (瞬译) is a real-time captioning app for iPhone and iPad on iOS 18 or later, provided by Weigan Technology (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd. ("we," "us," or "our"). It turns speech from the microphone you select, or playback audio from other apps after you start a system broadcast, into on-device captions, and can show a translation with the system translation framework. This statement explains how personal information related to the app is handled.

We take the protection of your personal information seriously and apply safeguards consistent with applicable law and established security practice.

You do not need an account operated by us. The current version does not show ads, does not track you across apps, and does not include in-app purchases or subscriptions. We do not operate a server that receives your recordings, captions, or an account profile.

1. Information we process and why

We process personal information only where we have a lawful basis, such as your consent, providing a feature you asked for, or complying with law.

1.1 Audio

Audio is processed only while you have started a caption session. The purpose is to turn speech into text. The method is reading audio on your device and passing it to on-device recognition. The scope is the speech in that session.

1.2 Speech recognition

Recognition starts on your device. We do not send audio to a server of our own. Which path runs depends on the language and your settings:

1.3 Translation

Translations are produced on the device by Apple's Translation framework. The first time you use a language pair, the system may download that translation pack from Apple. After the pack is ready, caption text is translated on the device. We do not send source or translated captions to our servers, and the app does not call a third-party online translation API.

1.4 Caption history

If "Keep caption history" is on (it is on by default), the app stores recent captions on the device, including the original text, the translation, and the time. History is capped (currently 80 lines); older lines are removed. You can delete individual lines or clear the history. New lines are not saved after you turn the option off.

You can export history as an SRT file and send it through the system share sheet to an app or person you choose. We do not upload that file for you.

1.5 Preferences

The app stores preferences on the device so the next launch can reuse them: source and target language, audio source (screen audio or microphone; screen audio is the default), Picture in Picture, whether the original is shown first, whether history is kept, window style, typeface, type size, translation color, background opacity, whether enhanced recognition is preferred, and recent language pairs. These are used to provide the features you asked for. They are not used for advertising or profiling.

The device also stores choices about sync and prompts: whether automatic iCloud sync is on (off by default), whether sync is limited to Wi-Fi (on by default), whether a conflict keeps the device copy, the iCloud copy, or the newer copy (newer by default), the time of the last sync, a version number you chose to skip, and the launch count and last prompted version used to limit the system rating prompt. Those values stay on the device. They are not written into the iCloud documents and are not uploaded to our servers.

1.6 Optional iCloud sync

iCloud sync is off by default. Only if you turn on automatic sync, or run a sync yourself, does the app write two documents into the iCloud container for your own Apple ID (iCloud.com.weigantech.see):

Apple stores and transfers those documents under iCloud's rules. We do not have a backend that can sign in and read that container, and we do not copy its contents to our servers. You can turn sync off, limit it to Wi-Fi, and choose whether conflicts keep the device copy, the iCloud copy, or the newer one. Turning sync off does not by itself delete copies already in iCloud. Delete those in the system's iCloud storage settings.

1.7 Version check

On launch, the app asks Apple's iTunes lookup service for this app's public App Store listing (app identifier, version, release notes, size, and release date) so it can tell you when an update exists. The request does not include your name, an account, or caption text. Apple handles ordinary connection data, such as an IP address, for that request. You can skip the prompt for a given version.

1.8 Feedback and ratings

If you use in-app Feedback, your mail app sends the message to support@weigantech.com. We receive only what you choose to write. In-app Rate opens the App Store review page, which Apple handles. After you have opened the app several times, the app may also ask the system to show a rating sheet. We store only a launch count and the version already prompted, on the device. We do not receive the rating you submit or your Apple ID.

1.9 Diagnostic logs

The app writes operating-system logs so recognition or translation issues can be inspected on the device. A log line may include a short snippet of recognized text or of a translation, a language identifier, and an error description. Logs stay on your device for tools such as Console. We do not upload them to our servers. If you choose to send a system diagnostic to Apple, logs on the device may be included in that diagnostic.

1.10 Information we do not collect

The app does not collect the following for upload to our servers:

Beyond the system permissions and network requests described above, the app does not include an advertising SDK, an analytics SDK, or a crash-reporting SDK.

2. Device permissions

Permissions are requested only when a feature needs them. Denying one permission affects only the feature that depends on it.

Speech recognition

Used to turn microphone or screen audio into captions. Manage it in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Speech Recognition.

Microphone

Used only when you choose the microphone source and start captions, to hear what you say. Screen-audio captions do not use the microphone. Manage it in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone.

System broadcast

Used, after you confirm the system broadcast control, to capture playback audio from other apps. iOS shows that a broadcast is active. Capture stops when you end the broadcast or stop captions. This capability is not used to record the screen image.

Network

Used to download translation packs, to download the local recognition model the first time it is needed, to check the App Store version, and to sync iCloud after you turn that on. Packs and models already on the device can still be used offline, subject to the system.

iCloud

Used only after you enable sync or run a manual sync, to store caption preferences and history in your iCloud. The device must be signed in to iCloud.

Background audio

While a caption session you started is still running, this lets recognition continue after the app leaves the foreground. It is not a separate permission that collects a new category of personal information.

3. System services and other providers

Some capabilities are provided by the operating system and the providers below. They are independent controllers and handle information under their own policies. What the app makes available to them is limited to the feature involved:

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not provide captions or audio to advertisers.

4. Where information is stored and for how long

4.1 Audio, recognition, translation, caption history, and preferences are processed on your device by default. We do not operate a server that stores this content, so we do not transfer it to servers of our own outside your country or region.

4.2 In the exception in section 1.2, system speech recognition may be processed on Apple's infrastructure. Server location is determined by Apple and may be outside your country or region. Documents in iCloud follow your Apple ID and Apple's iCloud rules. When the local model is downloaded, the device contacts the model host, whose servers may be outside your country or region. That connection is used to obtain the model file.

4.3 Unless the law requires longer, on-device information is kept only as long as the feature needs it. Microphone audio is dropped from memory when the session ends. The temporary screen-audio file is deleted when you stop captions, when that capture ends, or when the next screen capture starts, and uninstalling the app also deletes any temporary file still on the device. Caption history is deleted when you delete it, clear it, turn off history, or uninstall the app, and it is also limited by the line cap. Preferences are removed when you change them, uninstall the app, or delete the app's data. Copies already in iCloud are deleted by you through Apple's storage tools. Apple's retention of speech-recognition data follows Apple's policy.

5. Your choices and rights

You can exercise most rights in the app:

For information handled by Apple or the model host, use that provider's settings or privacy policy as well. If you want help with information we still hold under this statement, contact us as described in section 8. We may need enough detail to verify the request, and we will respond within the time required by law.

6. Children

The app is intended for a general audience. It is not directed at children under 14, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you are a minor, please read this statement with a parent or guardian and use the app only with their consent. If you are a guardian and believe we have processed a child's personal information without consent, contact us and we will review and delete it.

7. Security and updates to this statement

The app relies on the iOS sandbox, system permissions, and your own iCloud to protect data. Keep your device passcode and Apple ID secure. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. If a security incident occurs that the law requires us to announce, we will notify you as required.

We may update this statement and change the "Last updated" date on this page. Material changes will be described in the app, on this page, or by another reasonable notice. If you do not agree to the updated statement, stop using the app and uninstall it. Continued use means you have read the update.
